Chhatra Karki is a completely trustworthy and extremely knowledgeable guide with an infectiously cheerful nature.
Chhatra has minimal overheads and his small and professional company provided excellent value for money, in comparison to the larger trekking organizations.
I have just completed the Annapurna Circuit with friends; Phil and Anita Kane, Andy Jackson, Matt Hannaway, a swell as my two teenage sons Sam and Harry. I am sure I speak for all in praising Chhatra’s English which allowed him to answer our many questions, becoming the link to the Nepalese people and their culture.
The trek was arduous and reached a height of 5416 meters as we crossed the Thorung La Pass, a real test as we were a group of mixed ability, fitness, experience and age. Chhatra was always aware of the risks and put our wellbeing first at all times. The 17 day trek was a huge success for us all. When we returned to Kathmandu we socialized with him and his family and he also showed his versatility by acting purely as a guide to the city, visiting all the main tourist attractions.
I do hope you decide to use him as we did and benefit from his dedication, knowledge and best of all his sense of humor.

I did the Annapurna Circuit with Chhatra and a small group in November 2009 in 17 days. I had not met Chhatra before but he came recommended through a guide I had used previously. The whole group had a fantastic time thanks to his efforts. He is utterly trustworthy, knowledgeable, competent and adjusts to provide whatever the group needs. I felt that at all times, he was there to make our trip a success - if we wanted to have a slow day or stay somewhere different, nothing was too much trouble and he would arrange it. His English is fluent and he takes trouble to explain everything and answer any questions, demonstrating his excellent knowledge of culture, wildlife, mountaineering and cuisine! He provided a seamless link between the group and the Nepali culture.
I was impressed in the way that he would be with the group whenever we needed but allow us to feel that we were not always 'guided' - his experience in anticipating what we needed made the difference. He is good fun to trek with.
I'm sure that there are other great guides in the region but I felt that Chhatra brought us closer to Nepali culture and ensured our safety in a way I could not imagine being improved on. I also felt that 100% of his trekking fees were worth it and, more importantly, would be invested in-country by someone who had the nations interest at heart.
I will definately be going back and will use Chhatra again!

We did the Annapurna Circuit trek with Chhatra Karki in November/December 2009, over 14 days. The initial mass of tour operators presented us with a large scope of options, but we were very fortunate to have found Chhatra.
His fluent english ensured that from the first moment all arrangements and plans were understood by all of us. This served an even greater purpose on the trek, since Chhatra was able to answer all our questions relating to the route, the cultural and physical surroundings and any practical concerns.
Chhatra was both professional and lively throughout the trek, which ensured that our journey proceeded safely and full of enjoymment. We would highly recommend Chhatra as a knowledgable and entertaining guide, one who will provide you with a true Nepalese experience, accompanied by enthusiasm throughout. We've already planned our next trek!

In November 2009 we spent an unforgettable time trekking the Annapurna Circuit with Chhatra as our guide. Chhatra has many qualities to recommend him. In the first place, his English is excellent. Many of the guides we encountered leading trekkers in the region were not nearly as fluent, with the consequence that their groups didn’t benefit as much from the guide’s knowledge as they could have. Chhatra’s attitude to safety was also first rate. He advised us on the most reliable food to eat, where and how to get safe water along the way and recommended we attend an altitude lecture before crossing the Thorung La high pass which was well worth while. His knowledge of the route, places to stay, flora and fauna were all exemplary. Along the way we talked and learned about Nepali history, politics, geography, geology – just about anything, really! Chhatra was interested in learning about where we came from too. He also had a particular aptitude for ‘managing’ the group. He was very aware of our various moods, who was tired, who wanted to walk faster or slower, who felt unwell, and taking everything into account set a timetable that was appropriate in catering for the needs of all seven of us, without us really having to say anything. That said, he was not at all dogmatic and gave us a lot of space to decide just what we wanted to get out of the trip. Chhatra was thoroughly professional but also has a great sense of humour and we had a lot of laughs along the way. A guide is such an integral part of your trip to Nepal – choose wisely!!!

I have recently trekked in Khumbu, Nepal with Chhatra Karki, who I can highly recommend. Chhatra has an enormous amount of experience and is as knowledgeable and well equipped as any of the guides you will find in the mountains. He is a natural at his work and extremely professional in his duties, and he really made the difference on this trek – making a great trip into a truly unforgettable experience.
I would use Chhatra’s services again without question, I saw many guides, some of which were substandard and didn’t really do anything more than the minimum required, their customers were complaining but I did not have a single thing to complain about. His service started as soon as I arrived in Kathmandu and lasted for the complete duration of my trip, despite some large changes of plan during the trip. He has plenty of solid international references, which checked out very well and having used him I now add myself to that list of references, please contact me if you need any further information (michaeldavies007@hotmail.com). He needs notice so if you want to use his services you will need to let him know in advance as much as possible, but if you do this he will provide you with plenty of flexibility and ensure that you get the best possible trip to Nepal.
